The Sekhmet Talisman

Libyan Desert Crystal · Sterling Silver

At its heart sits a rare pale-green crystal, born some 26 million years ago when a meteorite struck the Sahara and fused the desert sand into glass. Found near the Egyptian-Libyan border, the same rare glass was carved as a scarab and set in the breastplate discovered in Tutankhamun's tomb. Here it is left in its raw, natural form — every facet a record of Earth's deep history.

Beneath the crystal hangs the face of Sekhmet, the lioness — in Egyptian myth the Powerful One, guardian of the throne, a quiet symbol of strength and sovereignty. The bezel and chain are hand-formed in sterling silver by Mohamed in Luxor, over roughly three days. No two are ever alike.

The Symbolism

  • Sekhmet — in myth, the Powerful One, guardian of the throne
  • The lioness — Egypt's oldest emblem of quiet strength
  • Desert glass — born of sky and sand, older than the pyramids
  • Worn in antiquity by those who carried meaning, not ornament
Stone Details

Libyan Desert Crystal is a rare natural glass formed approximately 26 million years ago, when a meteorite struck the Sahara and fused the desert sand at extraordinary temperatures. It is found only in a remote stretch of sand near the Egyptian-Libyan border.

Prized in antiquity, the same rare desert glass was carved into a scarab and set at the centre of the pectoral discovered in Tutankhamun's tomb. In this talisman the stone is left raw and uncut — so its colour, clusters and inclusions are entirely unique to your piece.

Shipping from Luxor

Each talisman is made entirely by hand in Mohamed's Luxor workshop and takes roughly three days to complete. Because every piece is one of a kind, please allow a little time for your talisman to be finished before dispatch.

Every talisman ships worldwide from Luxor, tracked and carefully packed. Enquire for shipping details to your country.

Care Guide

To keep the sterling silver bright, wipe gently with a soft polishing cloth and keep it away from perfume, water and harsh chemicals. Natural patina can be lifted with a dedicated silver cloth.

The raw Libyan Desert Crystal is a natural stone and can be fragile — avoid knocks and drops. When not worn, store your talisman in the pouch provided, away from harder jewellery.
